ARTICLE: "Word x Word poet rocks fest"
The second Word x Word Festival—an interesting affair celebrating the word, as written spoken and sung—kicked off Sunday night (well, actually at a rooftop party on Saturday) with a triple bill featuring Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers, Derrick Brown and Mike & Ruthy. Poet Brown entranced with a great set. Last year, the opening show featured The Low Anthem and Taylor Mali.

And here’s the “color” piece, written for Metroland, Albany’s alt-weekly. What do you think, does my description of the scene jibe with your own impression? Please comment below! (Just click “Comments and Reactions.”)
“Apparently, this is what happens when 5,000 music fans assemble for the concert of a major rock band and are treated like valued...

I’d love you to check out the first of two reviews of the Wilco-led Solid Sound Festival that held the Berkshires in thrall for several days (weeks?). Here’s the review of the music, published in the Berkshire Eagle.
Coming later this week is a color piece on the festival and scene as a whole, coming in Metroland. (Above photo by JDG.)

ARTICLE: "Wilco and their Solid Sound Festival:...
And we’re off. Here’s my advance feature on the Wilco-curated Solid Sound Festival, kicking off tonight at North Adams’ MASS MoCA and taking us through Sunday evening, when an ambiguously billed “Jeff Tweedy Solo Plus” finishes whatever impromptu combos pop up put a cap on the weekend. I spoke with Tweedy for the piece; check out what he has to say about...

First peek at Wilco's Solid Sound Festival
Weeks ago, we saw the WILCO letters resting on pavement. Now, they are hoisted into place! Something about those letters, even in their prostrate state, tickles my excitement feather. Now they have risen to glory. Thank you to the crack publicity team at MoCA for this, which I do not believe has been seen yet elsewhere.
The Solid Sound Festival runs tomorrow through Wednesday at MASS MoCA in...
ARTICLE: "Always moving forward, always Herbie"...
Herbie Hancock is coming to Tanglewood w00t!—and I had the chance to have a long, leisurely discussion with him for this advance feature, published in today’s Berkshire Eagle.
“In fact, he wasn’t sure he even wanted to make another album unless he could find a way to tie it to social issues of great consequence. Why put the concept at the forefront? Couldn’t the world simply use...

VIDEO: Miles Davis Quintet
Let’s just say it: this is my favorite-ever group. My interview with the piano player, some dude named Herbie, will be published in Friday’s Berkshire Eagle. He plays Tanglewood on Monday. (The song is “Agitation.” The video is from 1967.)

VIDEO: Mavis Staples and Jeff Tweedy
Time for some Solid Sound Festival hype. The Wilco-curated, three-day Happening is coming to Mass MoCA on August 13-15. ANTI- records just released this promo video for You Are Not Alone, the upcoming (September 14) Mavis Staples album Jeff Tweedy produced and wrote some songs for. Indeed, musically speaking, the earthy, stately title track sounds like a Sky Blue Sky-era Wilco song. My...
